Studio Self Portraiture
Spring 2019
For my Spring 2019 photography course, I was asked to create a photography typology and submit a series of 9 photographs that have stylistic similarities. I chose to experiment with self portraiture and low-key lighting in the studio. My goal was to focus on body image, stepping out of my comfort zone and showcasing my body, the thing I'm most self conscious about. I chose to use a low-key lighting setup in order to manipulate which angles and parts of my body that the viewer could see, to represent my personal lack of confidence in my body image and to visually represent the struggle of wanting to love yourself, but also wanting to hide at the same time.
