Studio Still Life
Fall 2018
For my Studio Photography course, I experimented with still life and product photography. I photographed three sex toys–a dildo, a butt plug and a fleshlight–using a single light setup and a black backdrop. I then edited the photos in a way to resemble product advertisements, with dramatic gradient lighting, highlights, and reflections. My choice of subject matter was made in order to comment on the glamorization of sex in media and how, from my perspective, the reality of sex doesn't live up to its reputation, in the same way many product advertisements glam up the marketed product far beyond its actual quality.
